Welcome to EVE Frontier

On behalf of all of us in the EVE Frontier development team here at CCP Games, we are excited to share with you what we have been working on and will continue to develop over the next decade and beyond.  



EVE Frontier is a new space survival simulation: a dark and deep online sandbox designed for a new generation of emergent gameplay and community impact within its vast universe. We aim to push the boundaries of what a virtual world can be, from its foundational technology to its approach to player-built creativity.

EVE Frontier focuses on self-reliance and moment-to-moment gameplay. You will need to fight to survive against a universe that is innately hostile to your existence – from its dangerous and unpredictable cosmology to its feral AI and embattled survivors. The combat and flight mechanics we are developing will allow you to take granular and consequential control of your ship. Your ability to pilot your ship and utilize your surroundings will determine the outcome of every encounter you face. In addition, everything on the Frontier relies on Crude Matter, an exotic group of materials that acts as a broad energy source for its inhabitants – master it one way or another, and you will prosper.  

MINING

Grounded in science, the universe of EVE Frontier will be rooted in fixed rules that govern its reality – beyond even our influence and control as developers. We call these ['Digital Physics'](https://whitepaper.evefrontier.com/digital-physics) and they will underpin the mechanics and gameplay of EVE Frontier as it grows and evolves. Against this backdrop, we are creating a survival sandbox that will allow you to play a vital role no matter your choices in the wider world at large: whether you choose to become a builder, industrialist, marauder, or explorer, you will shape the reconstruction – or destruction – of the Frontier itself. 

HEAD

To rebuild civilization on the Frontier, we are giving you the ability to not only construct in-game infrastructure but fully configure it to your own needs. This means each structure has a programmable layer. We call this feature Smart Assemblies, and it includes defenses, trading posts, industrial units and a wide variety of other types of facilities to construct your own personal space complex. You can develop your own ideas or address the needs of others: from mission systems to private economies, Smart Assemblies will unlock third-party development with a powerful toolkit for creators to build beyond EVE Frontier’s virtual world. 

LASERS

We have much more to share with you, but we also wanted to mention what has been on many of your minds over the past year as we head into the future together: yes, EVE Frontier uses blockchain technology and it is important for us to be transparent about this. We’ve explored this technology thoroughly and we are confident it will unlock new possibilities for virtual world design and third-party development. Digital Physics, Smart Assemblies and other game features have been developed out of its utility. Open access is key to the vision for EVE Frontier: not just across these areas, but across the game’s server itself, our [GitHub](https://github.com/projectawakening) and the open-sourcing of our Carbon Development Platform that we [recently announced](https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ccp-games-carbon-development-platform-goes-open-source). Lastly and candidly: as developers, we want you to know that we are entirely focused on building an immersive and engaging game. The various technologies we are using are all in service to accomplish its vision as a space survival simulation grounded in science.


While we are early in development, we have been playtesting closely with the community. We intend to continue with this close collaboration at the center of all our efforts: you will be with us every step of the way as EVE Frontier grows. The next playtest, which starts on Friday, 27 September, will be the fourth playtest that we have undertaken so far: PHASE IV. You can register [here](http://community.evefrontier.com). We welcome you to join and test EVE Frontier for yourself; a range of streams and materials will be available for playtesters to gain further insight into current development.
