EVE Frontier: Introducing Founder Access

A First Look

Today, we're taking the next major step in our development journey. As a space simulation, EVE Frontier will become a living, breathing galaxy we're building together - and now, we're inviting you to be more than just players. 

When we first conceptualized EVE Frontier, our vision was clear: create a space survival simulation that goes beyond traditional gameplay. We wanted to craft a world where every player's action has weight, where survival isn't just a mechanic, but the philosophy of the entire game. Our galaxy is cold, calculating and out to kill you. But we also wanted to create something that was inherently open: that the server, ecosystem and economy are all configurable and programmable, giving player collaborative power of the evolution of the game.  

In developing EVE Frontier we want to focus on dynamic, moment-to-moment gameplay. In a full-loot, full-loss PVP environment every interaction has inherent value, and we wanted to really emphasize those interactions by maximizing player agency. In the Frontier skill, strategy and planning are king - no information is given away freely. Players will be limited to knowing only what they can see, or what their established infrastructure is able to provide for them. With the introduction of occlusion mechanics, it’s not enough to just be in the same area as another player - entire fleets of ships can be obscured behind objects in space, and can use environmental objects to mitigate or block incoming attacks if need be. Players will need to be patient and aware at all times; you may not know when an enemy is lurking behind a rock until they emerge and open fire - and they may not see your response fleet lying in wait either.

Transitory or entrenched, at some point most players will need to build and establish structures in space. Whether these are storage units for ships and materials, manufacturing centers, resource harvesters, automated defenses or communications relays, these structures will be the bedrock upon which player groups are built. However - these structures are not invulnerable, nor are they immune to subterfuge by those with nefarious intent. Player structures are only as competent and secure as the players who establish them, and the ability to program their behaviour and interactions in space will be a fundamental link in creating an environment that rewards strong relationships between players and third-party development. 

In a galaxy as massive as the Frontier, utilizing the geography to your advantage is paramount. Players will have a diverse set of new tools for how to navigate through space and between stars, along with the ability to build their own interstellar infrastructure in the form of Smart Gates. Building, maintaining and protecting these gates will allow players to create their own chokepoints, or divert around the chokepoints of others. In star-dense regions of space travel may seem a triviality, but when resources become scarce and players must transit to the far-flung corners of the universe in search of riches, the paths they build will become the veins that support empires - or become a resource themselves, ripe and ready to be plundered by pirates and other interplanetary ne'er-do-wells.

So, there is your first look at EVE Frontier. But we’re going a step further; we're opening the airlock and welcoming our most dedicated players to the earliest stage of this evolution. By acquiring Founder Access you’ll be able to play EVE Frontier in its pre-launch state, which when we go live on 10 December, will initially be our Closed Alpha build.   

This won’t be a typical alpha – we are launching an always-on server that will receive continuous new updates, features and content: an ‘in-development living galaxy’. We will perform server wipes as we move from Closed Alpha into future development phases, but as Founders you will always be able to play up to and beyond the launch of EVE Frontier itself: each paid Founder Access pack also contains premium subscription time that you’ll be able to use at launch when EVE Frontier moves to free-to-play.  

As Founders, you’ll also receive other benefits depending on the pack you purchase. Different Founder Access packs (starting at $29.99) will grant name reservation, cosmetics, Discord roles, access to developer streams and future unannounced rewards. All paid Founder Access packs will grant permanent access to our always-on server, experiencing the game as it evolves in real-time. If you want to recommend the game to others, or ‘try before you buy’ you’ll be able to apply for a free trial that grants access to specific development phases (starting with our Closed Alpha).
